Experience-mod basics
The short answer
An experience modification factor compares an employer's loss experience under the applicable rating plan. Use the official worksheet and rating authority for the controlling number. For FastechHR opportunity review, any X-Mod may be considered; the factor is a signal, never a stand-alone gate.
Use this in practice
- Around 1.30 begins to strengthen the adverse-history signal; 1.50 is stronger; 1.50–2.50 is the preferred opportunity-signal range.
- Credit mods and factors above 2.50—including 3.00, 3.50, and 5.00—remain reviewable.
- A new venture normally has no earned X-Mod; use 1.00 only as a working basis when needed, not as proof of favorable experience or eligibility.
- Match the worksheet to current loss runs and entity history.
- Ask the carrier or rating authority about apparent errors.
- Describe corrective actions separately from the official number.
What it means for you
Employer: Do not assume a high or low mod decides whether the account can be reviewed.
Retailer: Submit the current worksheet and reconcile entity or payroll changes.
Wholesaler: Bring the worksheet, explain the full account story, and avoid promises before review.
